The “Sconcho” is an innovative fabric art form that I conceptualized and named. The sconcho is in the style of a poncho with the asymmetrical draping of a lovely scarf. I sew all necklines by hand, hemming or surging the edges of the pieces. I enjoy the search for the perfect texture, color, and drape of the fabric. They are designed for casual or formal wear and are found in Minnesota boutiques and at Chicago area art festivals.

My business developed from a passion for feeding and watching birds for almost 50 years, and my artistic skills and talents in working with stained glass. Creating functional birdfeeders that are truly a work of art is a challenge that I wanted to take on. I enjoy the three-dimensional projects and using glass and copper for a unique function; the challenge is not the size, but designing works that attract birds and hold up to the weather. The process is to combine functionality and strength with the beauty of glass and copper. All of the glass and copper for the birdfeeders is cut by hand then soldered with lead-free solder. Colors of glass are selected that complement each other, yet make an artistic statement in a garden.

Joyfully embracing American popular music, Sonic Love Child spices their repertoire of traditional folk, classic country, and vintage pop with more contemporary folk, pop and original tunes. Inspired at the core by artists considered traditional or country music stalwarts like Maybelle Carter, Merle Travis, and Johnny Cash, Sonic Love Child just as eagerly chooses songs from musicians such as Willie Nelson, Jimmy Webb, Townes Van Zandt, and Steve Goodman whose artistry moves back and forth across those classic country borders ranging into popular music, folk, and even jazz-inflected songwriter territory. Labels can be as deceptive as they are explanatory, but however you describe the SLC repertoire, great melodies and compelling lyrics guide the wide ranging lead vocals, deft harmonies, and tasteful instrumentation that characterize Sonic Love Child’s performances. The band features David Alderson on rhythm/lead guitar and vocals, Nicole Navratil on vocals and hand percussion, Mark Hoornbeek on lead guitars and mandolin, and Shirley Fors on harmony vocals.

SLC Short descriptions:

Music label: Traditional folk, classic country, vintage pop and original music.

The band experience: A joyful celebration of American roots and popular music.
